(7) The being after the flesh or after the spirit
『For
they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that
are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is
death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind
is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed
can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (Romans
8:5-8)』The flesh and the spirit can coexist as light and
darkness.
Jesus asked Peter『And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I
am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. (Mark 8:29)』Peter
witnessed many miracles of Jesus, he had experience walking on the water, he
received revelation from God.
『And
he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be
rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed,
and after three days rise again. And he spake that saying openly. And Peter
took him, and began to rebuke him. But when he had turned about and looked on his
disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou
savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.』(Mark 8:31-33)
The disciples did not
accept Jesus' death. This is mind the
things of the flesh. The mind of the flesh can't accept the word of God.
Only the mind of the spirit can accept the word of God. Only those who was died
on the cross with Jesus can receive the body of the spirit from God.
Jesus said
that『And when he had called the people unto him with his
disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.』(Mark
8:34) There is a parable between fresh and spirit:『Neither
do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine
runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles,
and both are preserved.』(Matthew 9:17) new wine is the spirit,
new bottles is body of the spirit.
